Amity Trader Barges & Ferries

Last updated: June 2026

Amity Trader Barges & Ferries ("we", "us", "our") operates vehicle barge and foot passenger ferry services between Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island, Queensland. We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can access or correct it, or raise a concern.

1. What we collect

We collect personal information when you:

  • Make or start an online booking — name, contact details, vehicle registration, make and model, travel dates and passenger numbers
  • Create an account or apply for resident or account holder rates — name, address, contact details, and documents verifying island residency where applicable
  • Pay for services — payment is processed securely by Square; we do not store your full card details
  • Use our website — limited technical data including IP address, browser type and pages visited (via cookies and analytics tools)
  • Contact us by phone, email or in person — details you provide in that interaction

We collect only what is reasonably necessary for the purposes described below.

2. How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • Process and manage your bookings, including sending confirmations, reminders, and notifications about bookings you have made or started but not completed
  • Administer resident concession rates and account holder arrangements
  • Send you service updates, operational notices, and promotional offers by SMS or email — only where you have given explicit consent by ticking the opt-in checkbox on our booking or registration forms. You can withdraw consent and unsubscribe at any time via the link or reply option in any message we send
  • Process payments and maintain accurate financial records
  • Respond to enquiries and improve our services
  • Meet our legal, safety and regulatory obligations as a licensed commercial vessel operator

3. Who we share it with

We share personal information only as necessary with trusted service providers, which may include:

  • Our vehicle booking platform (FerryHawk)
  • Payment processor (Square) — Square may process and store payment data on servers outside Australia
  • Accounting software (MYOB)
  • Fleet and safety management platform (Sea-Flux)
  • SMS and email delivery providers (Twilio)

These providers are required to handle your information securely and only for the purposes we specify. We do not sell your personal information.

We may also disclose information where required by law or by regulatory authorities such as AMSA or Queensland Police.

4. Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and analytics tools, including Google services, to understand how visitors use the site and to improve it. Analytics data is aggregated and does not personally identify you. You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some site features may not function correctly if you do.

5. CCTV

We operate CCTV cameras on our vessels and at boarding points for the safety and security of passengers, crew and vehicles. Footage is retained for 30 days unless required to be kept longer for an incident investigation or legal matter. Access is restricted to authorised personnel and, where required by law, regulatory authorities or law enforcement.

6. Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. Where information is no longer needed, we destroy or de-identify it. Some service providers store data on servers outside Australia — where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure privacy standards consistent with Australian law are maintained.

7. Access and correction

You may request access to or correction of the personal information we hold about you by contacting us:

Email:  enquiries@amitytrader.com

Phone:  07 3821 5779

We will respond within a reasonable time. We may decline requests in limited circumstances permitted by the Privacy Act and will explain our reasons if we do so.
